The unbeatable team
SK Telecom T1 in 2015 arrived in Berlin at 15-0 and looked inhuman. Faker, Marin, Bengi, Bang and Wolf, coached by kkOma, won lanes, map and minds before minute ten.
Only one team had troubled them all year: the KOO Tigers of Smeb, Hojin, Kuro, PraY and GorillA, LCK runners-up and little brothers craving a Korean revenge story.
An all-Korean final in Berlin
The Mercedes-Benz Arena hosted the second all-Korean final ever. Europe watched in envy: its Fnatic had just fallen 0-3 in semis to the same KOO that now had to stop the monster.
Game one was a statement: Faker on Ryze dismantled Kuro and SKT went 1-0 after 40 minutes of total control.
KOO strikes back
But KOO had not come for tourism. In game two, Smeb’s Fiora delivered one of the most remembered individual finals performances and tied the series. For a moment Berlin held its breath: what if the unbeatable could bleed?
It was only a moment. SKT answered like greats do: coldly.
Closing out history
Marin, the tournament MVP, dominated game three on Renekton, and in game four Bengi and Wolf sealed the rift for the definitive 3-1. Faker lifted his second Worlds title and SKT closed a 15-1 run that remains the best ever by a champion.
“We weren’t playing against five people. We were playing against an idea of the game we didn’t understand.” — PraY, years later.
Legacy
That SKT proved perfection exists in League of Legends: macro, teamfights and a superstar, Faker, at his absolute peak. KOO disbanded soon after, but their stolen game against the unbeatable is part of the myth.
If you watch one classic final, make it this one: the day the greatest team ever became eternal.
